Before You Cruise

What you'll need to look out for before you head out to sea.

PORTS OF CALL - Mexico

Acapulco, Mexico

Acapulco was first settled in 1550 and for many years was a major Mexican shipping port. Attracted to its perfect sunsets, clear waters and many white-sand beaches, visitors began flocking to Acapulco in the 1920s. Visitors still thrill to the sight of Acapulco's intrepid La Quebrada cliff divers, who routinely risk their lives by leaping from the 130-foot-high rock formations into the surf below. Its legendary nightlife makes it a required port of call for the complete Mexican cruise adventure.

Don't Miss

When you're in Acapulco, don't miss the famous cliff divers. You can see them up close at La Quebrada, or watch from above at the Plaza Las Glorias Hotel Restaurant and Bar.

Fun Things to Do

- Learn about the movie-star history of Acapulco and visit the exclusive and luxurious homes in the famous Las Brisas area.

- Step aboard the Shotover jet boat, and embark on a thrilling 30-minute, high-speed ride along the Papagayo River.

- Visit the famous Hotel Flamingo, where many movie stars of the '50s found refuge from the fast-paced life of Hollywood.

Sporting Adventures

Play a round of golf at the Mayan Palace Golf Course, surrounded by tropical plants and numerous hills and lakes.

Local Flavours

Delicious, authentic Mexican food is available everywhere in Acapulco. Seafood is another great bet. It's usually very fresh and fantastic.

Currency

Mexico's currency is the peso (MXN). The $ sign is used to refer to pesos, so don't be shocked at the price tags. Any prices in U.S. dollars are listed as US$ or USD. Many hotels, restaurants and shops also accept major credit cards, which usually offer you a good exchange rate.
