What you'll need to look out for before you head out to sea.

PORTS OF CALL - South America

Cape Horn, Chile

Located at the southernmost tip of South America, at the very end of the Andes Mountains chain, Cape Horn's rugged and majestic region features a diverse and fascinating ecosystem. Often referred to as "the far end of the earth," this beautiful, untamed Antarctic strait connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Prior to the opening of the Panama Canal, it was the preferred route for clipper ships carrying trade goods around the world.

Don't Miss

Depending on weather conditions, you'll view the natural sea walls and cliffs jutting almost 1,400 feet from the sea. It's not uncommon for giant slabs of ice to break off and crash in spectacular fashion. You'll also find an abundance of sea birds, penguins and seals. And don't be surprised if you spot a killer whale or two trailing alongside the ship.
